Teacher Incentive Fund Grant

Class Project

In July, 2010 the Redmond School District, as part of a consortium of several other school districts from Central Oregon and across the state, was awarded a federal Teacher Incentive Fund  (TIF) grant. The grant gives 13.2 million dollars to the consortium to be spent on planning and implementing reforms associated with the CLASS Project over a five year period. Below is a brief description from the U.S. Department of Education about the purpose and goals of the Teacher Incentive Fund as well as a link to some FAQ's about how TIF relates to the CLASS Project.

This program supports efforts to develop and implement performance-based teacher and principal compensation systems in high-need schools.

Goals include:

  • Improving student achievement by increasing teacher and principal effectiveness;
  • Reforming teacher and principal compensation systems so that teachers and principals are rewarded for increases in student achievement;
  • Increasing the number of effective teachers teaching poor, minority, and disadvantaged students in hard-to-staff subjects; and
  • Creating sustainable performance-based compensation systems.

The following is a link to the Chalkboard website in which you will find some commonly asked questions about how TIF relates to the CLASS Project.
