Dear First Grade Family,
Welcome back! I hope you had a wonderful and relaxing two weeks off together.
Thank you so much to everyone who contributed toward making the cookie decorating party a success.
This week we will conclude our “Gingerbread Stories” literature study and begin learning about animal habitats in winter.
Homework Please read and save the “Unit Four Family Letter” from Everyday Math. Students should complete and return the Home Links math page.
For the upcoming weeks, our spelling tests will be on the “High Frequency” words on the Handwriting/Spelling Worksheet.
Practice reading, writing, and spelling these words for the test on Friday. All first graders will be assessed on the first fifty “High Frequency” words for the next report card.
Read at least 15 minutes each day!
Have a nice week!

Week Eleven
November 17, 2008
Dear First Grade Family,
The children have been having an exciting voyage “aboard” the Mayflower. We survived a horrible storm, successfully repaired a broken mast, and rescued John Howland when he fell overboard.
We are hoping to conclude our study of the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving with a “mini” celebration this Friday, November 21st. The four first grade classes are planning to gather in the school cafeteria at 1pm for singing, a movie, and pumpkin pie. In order for us to participate in the pie eating part of the celebration, our class will need to contribute two pumpkin pies. If you are able to donate a pumpkin pie, please let me know by tomorrow (Tuesday, November 18th). Due to school health regulations, the pies cannot be home-made. Your assistance would be much appreciated!
Homework Students should complete and return the writing worksheet and the Home Links math pages. Practice reading, writing, and spelling the “ug” family words - there will be a test on these words on Friday.
No School Next week is Thanksgiving Break. There will be no school from November 24th through November 28th.
Happy Thanksgiving!
