Lynch Elementary Chess Team places well during regional tournament

The Lynch Elementary chess team placed second for the elementary level during the regional chess tournament held on Saturday, Feb. 03, 2018 at Ridgeview High School.

Third Grader Ryder Craig placed first and second grader Jaxson Lorenzen placed second. Craig and Lorenzen will advance to the Oregon state chess championship in Portland, Ore. this March.

Ten students from the 28 member club were invited to compete: Mikenna Fuentes – 3rd grade, Ryder Craig – 3rd grade, Jaxson Lorenzen – 2nd grade, Keith Buie – 2nd grade, MJ Wood -3rd grade, Justin Kemry – 4th grade, Jaella Hoffman  – 3rd grade, Savanna Oster – 1st grade, Tyler Gregory – 3rd grade and Lexie Compos – 3rd grade.

The team is coached by teachers Katie Vernon and Anna Rhodes who organized an award ceremony for the students and their families, complete with donuts, orange juice and a healthy dose of well-deserved recognition.
