Redmond School District hires new Assistant Directors for Student Services

Redmond School District has hired two new Assistant Directors of Student Services, Executive Director of Student Services Martha Hinman announced today.

“We’re excited to begin working with Kira and Karen,” Hinman said. “Both bring unique skill sets and experience that will support our staff, students, parents and provide great outcomes for the district.”  

Kira Fee will replace Kerry Desmarais who served as Director of Student Services for five years. Fee will primarily oversee elementary special education programs. She will also take on supervision of other programs to be determined

Fee comes to the district from Springfield High School in Springfield, Ore. where she worked as a behavior and learning specialist. She previously held teaching roles at Thurston Elementary in Springfield and Lebanon High School in Lebanon, Ore.   

Fee earned a Master of Art in Teaching from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore. and expects to complete a doctorate in Education Methodology Policy and Leadership from the University of Oregon in fall 2018.   

Karen Jordan currently serves as Student Services Coordinator for Salem-Keizer Public Schools, where she’s worked the past 10 years. She previously worked as an Autism Specialist for Willamette Education Service District in Salem, Ore. and as a teacher for Bend-La Pine School District.  

Jordan will oversee secondary special education programs, including the district’s Transition program at Edwin Brown Education Center. Transition is a community based program for 18-21 year old special needs students in the Redmond School District.

Jordan holds a Master of Science in Education from Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Ore.  

Fee and Jordan will assume their new roles in July 2018.
